Adult Sunday School meets each Sunday morning at 9:15 in the Deacon’s office. The class is an inquirer’s class for those wishing to be confirmed or received and for those interested in learning more about the Episcopal Church. All are welcome. The class is recorded for those unable to attend in person and can be made available upon request by emailing the Deacon at sally.herring@gmail.com.

Children’s Sunday School

Our Sunday school class for children gathers at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings and is based on the readings from Scripture for the day. We currently use the Feasting on the Word curriculum for our children’s class. Children gather with Ms. Mandi Gonzalez, while parents are welcome to join the Sunday Adult Forum.  All are welcome!

During the 10:30 service, children ages 4-11, are invited to join Ms. Mandi for Children’s Chapel in the atrium for a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd lesson. The children leave at the beginning of the reading of the lessons and return during the passing of the peace.

The Inquirers Class at St. Catherine’s is held periodically throughout the year for people who are new or interested in learning more about Christianity and the Episcopal Church. It is also for longtime Episcopalians who may be interested in a “refresher course. An important thing to know about being an Episcopalian is that questions are welcome here. In fact, they are encouraged! The Inquirers Class reflects this characteristic of our tradition. It is based on questions that many people may have about the Church, such as:

  • What do I have to believe to be a Christian?

  • What about people who are from different religious traditions or who are atheists?

  • What do Episcopalians believe about the Bible?

  • What is baptism all about?

  • Was Jesus really God, or was he just a great and inspired teacher?

  • Do Episcopalians believe that Christ is really present in the Eucharist? Or, is it just a symbol?

  • How does prayer work?

  • Why do some people make the sign of the cross, and when do they do it?

  • Why do the clergy and lay ministers wear special robes during the service? Is it really necessary?

These are just a few of the possible questions that may come up in our conversations, but any question is welcome! This seven-week course covers the basics of Christianity and the richness of Anglicanism and the Episcopal Church. This years Confirmation class will run through Sunday, September 26th. All are welcome, including those simply wanting to learn more about the church. We meet in the Deacon’s office at 9:15.

We will begin another series of classes in October. The topic will be announced. There are plans to present a series of classes on the Ins and Outs of Why We Do What We Do in the Episcopal Church later in the year. This will be a class for those interested in learning more about the Episcopal Church and for those who would like a refresher course.
