According to The Book of Common Prayer, “the sacraments are outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace, given by Christ as sure and certain means by which we receive that grace.” While Holy Baptism and the Holy Eucharist are considered the two great sacraments of the Gospel, the Catholic tradition of the Church has conventionally acknowledged Confirmation, Marriage, Ordination, Unction, and Reconciliation as sacraments.

Holy Baptism is “the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ’s Body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God.” At St. Catherine’s, baptisms occur within the context of the Holy Eucharist, when the Body of Christ is assembled for worship.

The Holy Eucharist is celebrated at least once per week and is available to all baptized Christians. Communion is also available for those unable to attend public celebrations of the Eucharist. In order to receive communion under special circumstances, please contact the the parish office or email the Deacon-in-charge at sally.herring@gmail.com.

Marriage is available to all members of St. Catherine’s. If you are planning to be married and considering St. Catherine’s for your wedding, contact the parish office to learn about the requirements for marriage.

Reconciliation of a Penitent (also known as private confession) is available for all who desire it. Confessions are heard by appointment with the rector.

Confirmation is the sacramental rite whereby “we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.” Confirmation occurs during the bishop’s annual visit to St. Catherine’s.

Unction (also known as ministration to the sick) is available upon request for those with special need. In addition, St. Catherine’s provides ministration at the time of death (also known as last rites) for those who are terminally ill or those who are preparing to pass into the nearer presence of God. Please contact the parish office for more information.

Funerals and Burial Offices may be offered upon request. Please contact the parish office for more information.

Other services and rites, such as the Celebration of a New Ministry and Thanksgiving for the Birth or Adoption of a Child, are celebrated as the need arises. For more information, please contact the parish office.
